ESPEmbedded Systems & Projects

Build realhardwareat SAIT.

The Embedded Systems and Projects Club is open to every SAIT student. We solder, program microcontrollers, design circuit boards and build projects together, from a first blinking LED all the way to a satellite.

Open

A club for people who like making things work.

No experience needed and no application screening. Show up, pick up a soldering iron, and build something with people who enjoy the same thing.

Join the club
Workshops
Soldering, microcontrollers, KiCad and more, taught by members for members.
Build nights
Open bench time with tools, parts and people to ask when something won't work.
Member projects
Sensors, robots, radios and gadgets. Bring an idea or join someone else's.
A portfolio
Projects get documented, so you leave with work you can show an employer.

Projects

One big project the execs pour their time into, and plenty of smaller ones anyone can start.

Flagship project

CubeSat

A 3U satellite with student-built subsystems: circuit boards, radios, firmware and structure. The exec team spends most of its own time here, building the hardware and securing the funding.

The CubeSat team is selective, with its own application, an essay and an in-person meeting.

Your idea here

Smaller builds that start at build nights: things like a weather station, an LED matrix, a robot arm or a radio receiver. Pitch one and we'll help you find parts and teammates.

The exec team

Four students running the club. Most of our own time goes into the CubeSat and the funding behind it; the club is how everyone else gets their hands on hardware too.

Build log

  1. Club approved at SAIT

ESP starts as a general projects club, open to every SAIT student.

  2. espclub.ca goes live

Club sign-ups and CubeSat team applications open.

  3. Fall 2026

    CubeSat concept study

Mission requirements, payload trade study and choosing a radio band.

Photos from our first build night will go here. Boards, bench setups, and the occasional burnt resistor.

Work with us

If your company or lab works in space, RF or embedded hardware, we'd like to hear from you. We're looking for mentors, parts and test equipment, and advice from people who have flown hardware.

Sponsors and mentors are credited on this site and in our design review packages, and they get to know a team of students who build things.

Come build something.

Anyone at SAIT can join. It takes a minute, and beginners are welcome.
